Z'ivo 2014 Pinot Noir

Z'ivo 2014 Pinot Noir

At the highest quality tier of Lundeen Pinot Noirs lie the Single Vineyard bottlings. These wines are sourced from excellent vineyards that are capable of expressing the beautiful, intriguing, and complex elements of Pinot Noir in general as well as the distinctive characteristics from a given vineyard. In the winery, Pinot Noir grapes are handled very gently and typically put into fermenter with some percentage of whole clusters remaining intact. I believe that great vineyards express their uniqueness not only in fruit but in the complex contents of the entire grape cluster. The resulting wines are pure and powerful expressions of Pinot Noir that remain light on their feet, rich on the palate, and very elegant with modest alcohols and vibrant acidity.

Vineyard Overview

Zivo Vineyard is nestled among beautiful rolling hills on the east side of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. It faces the morning and so is warm and lit early in the day. It is 25 acres, originally planted by Dr. John Zelko in the mid- 1990s. Our grapes come from the volcanic section at the top of the vineyard which I believe conspires to lend elegance to the resulting wine. A perennial gift from this vineyard are ripe stems which give a dry, spicy, brown/woodsy character which I think mingles nicely with the floral notes and ripe red fruit.
