La Cantera 2014 Pinot Noir

La Cantera 2014 Pinot Noir

At the highest quality tier of Lundeen Pinot Noirs lie the Single Vineyard bottlings. These wines are sourced from excellent vineyards that are capable of expressing the beautiful, intriguing, and complex elements of Pinot Noir in general as well as the distinctive characteristics from a given vineyard. In the winery, Pinot Noir grapes are handled very gently and typically put into fermenter with some percentage of whole clusters remaining intact. I believe that great vineyards express their uniqueness not only in fruit but in the complex contents of the entire grape cluster. The resulting wines are pure and powerful expressions of Pinot Noir that remain light on their feet, rich on the palate, and very elegant with modest alcohols and vibrant acidity.

Vineyard Overview

La Cantera Vineyard perches high in the Chehalem Mountains above Newberg, Oregon and has an ideal S/SW exposure. It is a 20-acre vineyard, originally planted by industry veteran John Davidson in the late 1980s. The soil type is known as Laurelwood, formed as soil particles were gradually deposited by wind over millions of years. Pinot Noirs from Laurelwood soils very typically produce very pretty floral and fruited aromas with a rich texture yet modest tannins.
